I help businesses grow online.
A digital entrepreneur and consultant with 19+ years in media, marketing, and ecommerce across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.
Who I am
I'm Nick Marquet — Senior Media Specialist at NZME, and a digital and growth advisor for New Zealand businesses. I work at the intersection of websites, Shopify, AI, and NZ media: helping businesses build the digital foundations to grow, reach the right audiences, and make smart decisions about where to put their marketing energy.
My background
My current role as Senior Media Specialist at NZME — one of New Zealand's leading media organisations — gives me a direct view into how NZ audiences consume media, what's working in advertising right now, and where the real growth opportunities sit. That perspective shapes how I advise every client.
Behind that perspective sits nineteen years across media, marketing, digital strategy, advertising, sales, and audience growth — working in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK with everything from independent operators to large brands. I've spent that time learning what actually moves the needle for businesses online, and how the NZ market quietly works differently to bigger ones.
Alongside that, I've started and run my own online ventures, written a book for first-time online business owners (Mommies Making Money Online), and worked hands-on with websites, Shopify, and practical AI. That mix — strategic NZ media perspective combined with hands-on digital building — is what shapes how I work with every client.
Why I moved into websites, Shopify, and AI
The more I worked with businesses, the clearer one thing became. Plenty of them had good products and real potential, but their websites were quietly holding them back. Sites that loaded slowly, felt dated, were hard to use on a phone, or simply did not guide visitors towards taking action. The opportunity was obvious, and it was being missed.
So I focused on the work that makes the biggest difference: building modern, fast websites and Shopify stores that are designed around the customer, and helping businesses use AI in sensible, practical ways. AI in particular is changing how people find and choose businesses, and most owners do not have the time to keep up. I see my role as bridging that gap, turning fast-moving digital change into clear, useful steps a business can actually take.
How I think about your business
This is where my approach differs from a typical web designer. A great website is not a design project. It is a growth project. Before thinking about layout or colour, I want to understand your business, your customers, and what a good outcome looks like for you. More enquiries? More sales? A stronger first impression? Being found in search and through AI?
From there, every decision has a reason behind it. The structure guides visitors. The words speak to your audience. The page loads quickly and works beautifully on a phone. The calls to action make the next step obvious. And the whole thing is built to be found, by search engines and increasingly by AI tools. That combination, design that serves strategy, is what turns a website from a digital brochure into something that genuinely grows your business.

A bit about me personally
Outside of work, I'm a builder at heart. I like turning ideas into things that exist and seeing them help real people and businesses. I value clear communication, doing honest work, and making the complicated feel simple, especially for people who do not see themselves as technical. If you have ever felt talked down to or baffled by jargon when dealing with technical people, I think you will find working with me refreshingly straightforward.
